The Heart Behind the Verses

Susan Rae Trudy is an author and poet whose work traverses the delicate terrain of healing, vulnerability, and resilience. Through her verses and prose, she explores the quiet strength found in the fractures of the human spirit, offering a sanctuary for readers seeking depth.

Her creative journey is deeply intertwined with her photography, capturing moments of raw beauty that complement her written word. Based on the philosophy that storytelling is a form of survival, Susan offers a mirror to those navigating their own paths toward wholeness.

Susan Rae Trudy is a poet whose work is deeply informed by a lifetime of listening and healing. Susan is a registered nurse with more than three decades of experience across maternal-child health, neonatal intensive care, high‑risk obstetrics, trauma, and case management. She has spent her professional life bearing witness to some of the most profound moments of human vulnerability and resilience. These experiences shape the emotional depth and compassion woven throughout her poetry.

Susan holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington and began her nursing career in California before continuing her work throughout Texas and Tennessee. She has served patients and families in roles ranging from bedside nurse to case manager and care transition leader, supporting diverse populations including newborns and their families, the elderly, the uninsured, and those facing complex medical and social challenges. Her commitment to service has been recognized through multiple professional honors, including meritorious nursing awards and employee-of-the-month nominations.

Her writing reflects an intimate understanding of birth and loss, healing and uncertainty, advanced to practice, endurance and grace. With clarity and tenderness, her poems explore what it means to remain human in moments that demand both strength and surrender.

Susan Rae Trudy’s debut book of poetry "Susie Rae of Sunshine: Poems of Golden Truth & Light," marks a natural extension of her lifelong vocation, one rooted in presence, empathy, and the power of words to comfort and connect. She lives and works in Texas, where she continues working as a nurse and writing poetry.
